Theodore Parish and the Butcher Knife incident
Compiled by Joseph Parish
It is indeed one of the quirks of the Parish family history that Theodore Parish had a very bad temper. it was not unusual to hear of him losing that temper and taking his anger out on a family member. Considering that so little is known of Theodore it is no wonder that legends are abound.
Perhaps because we know so little about Theodore the man, we've invented legends about him to set him up a notch above the rest.
The following tale was related to me by my father Joseph V. Parish. I remember him telling this tale about his father Theodore many times.
It appears that at one time Joseph (My father) had made some young men extremely angry. He made it to his home located on Cooper Street in Millville without incident however, shortly afterwards a small gang of youths appeared in the yard yelling and edging Joseph on.
Theodore was in the house and hear what was going on so he came outside to investigate. When he arrived he saw the youthful gang approaching Joseph and immediately began wedging the large butcher knife at them.
It did not take long for them to get the idea and leave the area.
